We live an hour outside of New Orleans, LA, therefore I absolutely love and depend on the GPS map on my phone. There hasn’t been and will not be a time that I need to go somewhere new into New Orleans and decide I’ll just try to navigate this trip on my own. Why would I want to waste my time on such matters when I can put the address in my GPS and it get me there the fastest way.
If we use our GPS for directions to new places, why in the world would we want to try and navigate the direction of our life without knowing for sure the thoughts and ways God intends for us to go?
This morning I began reading with the kids Matthew 6:9, “Pray then like this: ‘Our Father in heaven.”‘ And this is where we begin… Immediately, I was reminded of
Isaiah 55:8-11 For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the LORD. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.
When I looked up the word thoughts in the original language, here is what I found in the NAS Exhaustive Concordance: “design, intentions, plan (s), purposes.”
And when you look up the word ways, this is what I found in the NAS Exhaustive Concordance: “way, road, distance, journey, manner.”
Right from the start, when we pray to our Father in heaven, we must take into account this truth. God’s design, intention, plan, purpose is not the same as yours, His is much higher. And the Ways (way, road, distance, journey) in which He intends on this plan on purpose to be carried out is much higher.
How much higher:
Isaiah 55:9 tells us. “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.”
Beyond our comprehension indeed. So, we must pray in such as way that we are asking God for His wisdom since we obvious do not think the way He thinks. And good news…
James 1:5-8 “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given to him. But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind. For that person must not suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.”
More good news…
Isaiah 55:10-11 goes on to say…
“For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven and do not return there but water the earth, making it bring forth and sprout, giving seed to the sower and bread to the eater, so shall my word be that goes out from my mouth; it shall not return to me empty; but it shall accomplish that which I purpose; and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it.”
would we spend so much time guessing what God’s will for the next step in our life. Our thoughts cannot even compare to the thoughts he has for you and me.
So…let us pray and ask for the wisdom of His thoughts today and His ways to accomplish His thoughts. Isaiah 55:12-13 ends with more great news…but you will just have to open the Word and read it for yourself.
Have a blessed day!
